How To Add Video And Music In External Hard Disk To Windows Media Player 12 Library


Do you store your huge music collection in a portable external hard disk due to portability reasons? Doing so, it comes handy to connect external hard disk to any of your laptop and play instant music. But when you plug-in external hard disk to the USB of a Windows 7 laptop, you cannot find the albums in Windows Media Player 12.

Here is how you can add music library.

1. Open Windows Media Player 12

2. Right-click on “Music” and then select “Manage Music library”.

3. In the following dialog box, you can see all the locations where Windows Media Player is scanning all the time for new video and music albums.

Click on “Add” button to add more media locations.

4. In the “Include Folder in Music”, dialog box browse through external hard disk where you stored your music and then click “Include folder” button.

5. Click “OK”

6. Now in the Windows Media Player interface, you will see “Updating media library..” status. Depending upon the size of the library, it may take sometime for all the media to get listed in WMP.

7. During progress of scan, you can see all new albums arts from your external hard disk appearing…
