How To Backup Or Export Bookmarks Manually In Firefox

Say you want to carry your bookmarks to another PC or switch to a new browser, you may want to first take a backup or export Firefox bookmarks. While there are add-ons that let you easily backup and restore Firefox bookmarks here are the steps to do it manually.

There are two ways in which you can save a copy of your bookmarks in Firefox. One is to take a backup as a JSON file, which can later be restored in Firefox itself. The other is to export bookmarks as an HTML file, so that you can import it back again in any other browser such as Google Chrome or Safari.

Backup Firefox Bookmarks

1. Go to Bookmarks –> Organize Bookmarks (Ctrl + Shift + B).

2. In the bookmarks library, click on Import and Backup menu and then select Backup.

3. Save the JSON file which can later be used to restore your bookmarks.

Export Bookmarks As HTML File

1. Repeat step 1 above.

2. Click on Import and Backup –> Export HTML.

3. Save the bookmarks as a HTML file to your desktop. This can later be used to import into Safari or Chrome.
