CATIA V5

You can’t edit CATIA V4 model files in CATIA V5. You can only open them without access to V5 functionalities. Hence you need to migrate it to V5 for using the CATIA V5 functionality. Module: Generative Drafting

By default in a CATDrawing, CATIA will not allow you to generate a 2D view from CATPart consisting of 3D Wireframe data like lines, curves, circles etc. While dealing with generating a drawing of 3D curve data in a Part, it’s better to enable Projection of 3D wireframe data. Light mode is the term given to load just the 3D data and not the V4 Drawing data. By default when you import CATIA V4 model into CATIA V5, V4 drawing file is also opened along with 3D model file. This can be disabled so that only 3D model file will open to reduce the loading time. This is useful especially when you just want 3D data for reference and not the V4 Drawing Data while designing surrounding parts.

By default in a Product structure, CATIA displays Product Number for the Top level Product and for sub products, Product Number and instance Name are displayed. CATIA gives a wide variety of options to customize this Product Structure Node. You can specify Description, Definition, Instance name, etc to be displayed in the Specification tree. (more…)

In a Product Design involving multiple parts, Publishing is a commonly followed method. By “Publishing” an element, a designer marks off the salient features of a part.  Surfaces, Faces, Edges, axes, and Vertices can be published. Scaling is used when you want to generate a element scaled equally along X, Y and Z axis w.r.t reference. Where as Affinity lets you scale model with different ratios in X, Y and Z axis. In this way you have more control using Affinity than Scaling command. Scaling and affinity can be found in Operations Toolbar in GSD (Generative Shape Design) Workbench.

Federation is grouping elements like surfaces and curves in a Join for easy picking of surfaces/curve later.
