CATIA V5 Tutorial: How to Export Section Curve Data from Assembly Design Section Cut

We often analyze a part and it’s joining conditions in a Product by taking sections in Assembly Design workbench of CATIA V5. You might often have felt the need of saving the section curve from Assembly section cut for later use in part design.

CATIA V5 can export those sections as a CATPart or CATDrawing or in dxf, dwg, igs, model and wrl formats. However this needs DMU Optimizer 2 Product License. In this article we will explain how to save the section curve from Assembly Design to different forms.

How to Export Section Curve Data from Section Cut of Assembly Design into CATPart, CATDrawing, dxf, dwg, igs, model and wrl formats?

1. Go to Tools –> Options
2. In the General settings, select the “Sharable Products” tab
3. In the license list, select the “DMO – DMU OPTIMIZER 2 PRODUCT” license.

4. Click OK. After License is procured, proceed to Sectioning in Assembly Design Workbench.
5. In the Sectioning Definition menu, you will now see two extra tabs: Definition and Behavior. You will also see a “Export” option in the Results tab. Click “Export as” icon.

Now you can save the Section curve data in CATPart, CATDrawing, dxf, dwg, igs,model or wrl format.
