You can change your system icons in Windows by applying icon packs. One such icon pack which was created and given for free by dkszone.net, was the Windows 7 Icon pack for Windows XP. However if you only want to change selective icons, say the Drive icons on your Windows PC, here is a freeware called My Drive Icon.

By using My Drive Icon you can apply custom icons to hard drives, USB drives, and external drives on your PC. Just run the application, browse and select an icon file (.ICO format), choose the drive for which you want to apply this icon, enter an optional label, and click ‘Apply Changes’. That’s it. You can now see the new icon for that drive in Windows Explorer.

Being a standalone exe file, you can carry this portable application on a pend drive and change the icons on your Office PC as well. Not satisfied with the new icons? My Drive Icon lets you restore the icons to defaults with a single click.

You may want to use an Image Converter such as Moo0 Image Type Converter or ToYcon to convert images into icons.
