How To Disable iPhone Location Tracking [Cydia App]
Ever since some security research has made a shocking revelation that iPhone secretly tracks location data including latitude and longitude coordinates and timestamp, every one who owns an iPhone has been feeling less secure about their privacy.
A secret file on your iPhone containing this location data in clear text gets synchronized to your PC or Mac whenever you use iTunes. So anyone with access to your iPhone or your personal computer can easily extract this information and use it to their advantage.
Seemingly this secret storing of location data has started with the iOS 4.0 firmware and until now it’s unclear as to why Apple would like to store this data but not use it by sending back to it’s servers. Maybe they like to use it locally for geo targeted advertising or some other new feature.
If you were to jailbreak your iPhone, then we have a smart Cydia app to disable this automatic recording of location and time information, thanks to Ryan Petrich. He is the same guy who earlier gave apps such as ProSwitcher and Display Recorder.
The app named untrackerd is available in BigBoss repository of Cydia. Search for untrackerd in Cydia and install this app. No new icons are added to your Homescreen.
The app installs a daemon that continuously runs in the background and keeps deleting the location history, which is stored in consolidated.db database file.
