Till now only iPhone 4 users could update to iOS 4.1 while preserving baseband(via TinyUmbrella). iPhone 3GS users were left with no choice when it came to unlocking their device after jailbreaking it using either Limera1n or GreenPois0n. This is because updating to iOS 4.1 would also update to basebands 05.14.02, 2.10.04 ,currently not supported by Ultrasn0w.

Things have changed now. You can jailbreak your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G using PwnageTool 4.1, while preserving your Ultrasn0w carrier unlock.

For those of you who accidentally have your baseband updated and currently with no way to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS, here is some good news. An unlock for basebands 05.14.02, 2.10.04 is in works, and may be released soon after 4.2 official is out. Also MuscleNerd has confirmed that new baseband unlock for iPhone 3GS and 3G will be out, though no ETA is given by him.
