The iPhone Dev team has released Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta to jailbreak iOS 4.1 or iOS 4 on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. Their previous release, Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 supported iOS 4 only. Similar to the previous releases of redsn0w, this one tool uses the pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit. It does not include the SHAtter exploit found by pod2g.

Warning For Unlockers

Stay away from Redsn0w 0.9.6 if you want to preserve your unlock. Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta requires you to update to iOS 4.1, thus upgrading your baseband to 2.10.04. Currently Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 does not support this baseband, so you will end up losing your unlock. You have been warned!

If you are adventurous, then you can try out the unofficial PwnageTool bundle to jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4.1 (Mac OSX only). This one preserves your baseband, so you don’t have to worry about losing unlock.
