iOS 4.3 jailbreak has been an ongoing discussion amongst iPhone hackers as well as users since Apple released the firmware ahead of the iPad 2 launch. An untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 on iPad has been demonstrated on video, with the developer saying that it’s better to hold off it’s release until iOS 4.3.1 release which he thinks will come from Apple to patch the userland exploit from the Pwn2Own contest.
iH8sn0w, the guy behind Sn0wbreeze 2.2.1, has now released Sn0wbreeze 2.3 Beta 1 to jailbreak iOS 4.3 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, 3G, and iPad. iPad 2 however is not yet supported. iPad 2 jailbreak has been jeopardized with the closing of both Limera1n and SHAtter exploits by Apple.
Sn0wbreeze lets you create custom IPSW firmware to jailbreak iOS 4.3. This jailbreak however is tethered and requires you to use iBooty to boot your iDevice into jailbroken state. Note that MobileSubstrate is broken on iOS 4.3 which means many Cydia apps including SBSettings will not work.
Sn0wbreeze is a Windows only tool. Mac users may want to look at the unofficial PwnageTool Bundles to jailbreak iOS 4.3 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G.
Note: Sn0wbreeze 2.3b1 does preserve baseband. However Ultrasn0w is broken on 4.3 according to iH8sn0w.
iPhone 3GS users need not use the iBooty method in case they have an old bootrom.
