Fix HTC Evo 4G Music Download Problem And Enjoy Increased 3G Speeds
Recent OTA update to HTC Evo 4G on Sprint carrier has bought some bad news for it’s users. The update blocked music downloads via some of popular apps like Rhapsody, Mog, Thumbplay, etc. The update changed the way Evo 4G accesses internet. A proxy server was included that limits the music downloads and also affected the 3G speeds.
Thanks to the developers who swung in action and figured out a solution for these two problems. The changes are simple to do and one just need to change the proxy address to enjoy full music streaming and increased 3G speeds. Users reported that the hack worked flawlessly with around 40% increase in 3G speeds.
There are few things that you should be aware of before attempting the hack. Your HTC Evo 4G should be on HTC Sense UI. If you are running a stock ROM. this should be taken care automatically. If you have a custom ROM installed, then make sure that it includes HTC Sense. Else, the hack is not possible in your device.
Other thing you need to have is the MSL code. The code is carrier specific and can be obtained by calling Sprint. Other way of extracting MSL code from your Evo 4G is to install MSL Reader app from android market. Note that you need to have a rooted HTC Evo 4G phone for installing MSL Reader app. If you haven’t done it yet, head to our guide on how to root Evo 4G. And here is another one.
Once you have the MSL code ready, go ahead and follow the guide.
1. On your Evo 4G, type ##3282#
2. Tap “Edit Mode”.
3. Tap “Advanced”.
4. Scroll down and tap on “HTTP PD Proxy Port” and change it’s value to 0 (zero).
5. Tap on “HTTP PD Proxy Address” and change the value to 0.0.0.0. (zeros).
That’s it. You can now enjoy downloads from your favorite apps such as Rhapsody, Mog, Thumbplay, etc and get increased 3G speeds on your HTC Evo 4G.
