Get Google Translation on Desktop With Free Translate Client
Google’s free translation service is used by most of us. For translating online content we either have to use Google’s free online tools or Google Toolbar in browser which is currently available only for Internet Explorer. Both these means are not adequate for all our translation needs.
For translating text from Word, Outlook or other Windows applications we will have to copy and paste the text or use a different desktop translation software. A free desktop client for Google Translation claims to solve all translation problems by running in the system tray. With this free tool, you can translate web content in any browser just by selecting the text and clicking the ‘G’ icon that appears after selection.
Client for Google Translate works not only in all browsers but also other Windows applications such as Word, Outlook etc. It has a set of options available by right clicking the tray icon. You can choose to start the application when Windows starts and also set default translation language. The pop up window that gives translated text can also be customized by changing it’s transparency, glide effects, text and colors to suit your needs.
For certain applications you might have to Enable this tool. For example, for Notepad, initially there was no pop-up for the selected text. However right-clicking the application’s tray icon gave the option ‘Enable for Notepad.exe’. In a similar way for applications that you don’t want the tool to work, right click and select ‘Disable in …’.
For any other applications that Client for Google Translate does not support selection and pop-up menu, you can always copy and paste the text in the small text editor to get the translation. Right click the tray icon and choose ‘open’ to bring up the editor.
Although the utility is handy, it is heavy on system resources. It consumes around 20MB of memory even in stand-by mode.
