Get Windows XP Network Connection Tray Icon In Windows 7
Windows 7 has many new enhancements over Windows XP such as Jump lists, Desktop Background Slideshows, Aero Themes, Taskbar with Pinned Items (also called the Superbar in Windows 7), Thumbnail Previews of Taskbar Items, Aero Shake, in-built drive encryption etc.
However after using Windows XP for years, you are sure to miss it’s old and familiar features such as the classic Start Menu, My Computer icon on Desktop, the Run Command in Start Menu, the Network Activity System Tray icon with animated blinking etc. Here is a small standalone program called Network Activity Indicator which lets you get back the Windows XP Network Connection Icon in Windows 7.
‘Network Activity Indicator’ replaces the Windows 7 default icon which doesn’t provide much visual feedback as to the status of connection. In Windows XP you can see Network Connection icons for each of the network interfaces on your PC, such as the wireless network, the LAN etc. However this free and open source utility provides only one icon for all interfaces combined.

The application blinks the ‘two monitors’ icon whenever there are incoming/outgoing packets on any of the available interfaces. You can customize the blink duration as well as choose to include the application at Windows Startup by right clicking on the System Tray icon.
