Hide And Lock A Folder On Your PC With Password Using My Lockbox
Sometimes you wish there was a locker on your PC, where you could dump all your sensitive data and keep it safe. There are free tools to hide entire drives on your PC. If you are using Windows 7, you can easily hide drives, or restrict access to selected drives without hiding them. However if you wish to keep only a single folder hidden and locked, here is My Lockbox, a free folder lock program.
During installation of My Lockbox, it asks you to first set a password for the folder.

In the next step, you can select the folder which you want to hide and lock. Skip this step by hitting ‘Next’ if you want to setup this folder at a later time.

After the installation is finished, start My Lockbox. You are then asked to enter the password, which you have set during the installation. Every time you start My Lockbox, you are required to give the password.

My Lockbox has an easy to use interface. A major drawback of this program is that you can only lock and hide one folder at a time. One folder may suffice the needs of many users, who can dump all their private files into a folder, or sub folders in a folder. Once you choose a folder and hit the ‘Lock’ button, the folder will completely disappear and you will not be able to view it in Windows Explorer.

The above screenshot shows the Simple interface of My Lockbox. Click on ‘Advanced’ to see all the options, including hotkey to open the application, choosing a skin, getting program updates, changing the password, and so on.

The next time you want to access the locked folder, start My Lockbox and enter password. The folder with all it’s contents is automatically opened up by My Lockbox. The application sits minimized in the system tray and pops up balloon notification whenever you unlock the folder. You can turn off these pop ups from the ‘Options’ tab in the ‘Advanced’ view.
My Lockbox works with Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. Supports 64bit systems also.
