How To Hide, Remove Or Uninstall Bing Bar From Firefox, Internet Explorer

The newly released Windows Live Essentials Beta adds a Bing Bar to your Firefox or Internet Explorer browser. Bing Bar lets you search Bing for web content, images, videos, browse and view weather forecast, news, stocks, and even videos. It adds a Private button, allowing you to switch to private browsing with a single click.

Since Bing Bar takes a bit too much space, you may want to hide it, disable it, or even remove/uninstall the toolbar entirely.

Hide Bing Bar

If you simply want to hide the toolbar then uncheck ‘Bing Bar’ in Firefox from View –> Toolbars.

Disable Bing Bar

In Firefox, you can disable the Bing Bar plugin by going to Tools –> Add-ons.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools –> Toolbars to uncheck the option ‘Bing Bar’. This will ask for a confirmation to disable the add-on.

Uninstall Bing Bar

Want to remove Bing Bar from your system completely? Normally you can uninstall any Windows Live Essentials program by running the uninstaller from Control Panel –> Programs and Features. However in case of Bing Bar, you will not be able to find the option to remove it in the Uninstaller, which includes all other programs.

Bing Bar is listed as a separate program in the Programs and Features control panel applet. Simply select it and click Uninstall to remove it.

Where exactly is the Programs and Features control panel applet?

If “bing bar” does not appear in either Add-ons or Add/Remove programs the feature still works but can’t be un-installed by the methods you say below. Please provide an alternate fix.

None of these 3 steps will work for me, because bing doesn’t show up in any of these folders. Any other ideas?

On XP, go under control panel, add and remove programs, it’s listed under “Search toolbar”, not Bing toolbar. Then remove it. You will see Bing’s name as you remove it.

Awesome! That little bit of info about bing using the program name of “Search toolbar” is exactly what I’ve been trying to find forever! Bing is beyond sneaky in making it difficult to remove them from your system. Thanks!

Yes, Patty. Most of us, I included, can often use better language. I agree with the objections to BING which is entirely a trespass on our lives. With Bing anybody can easily monitor or spy on my searches which is an outrageous violation of my privacy.

I also am having no luck with the suggestions posted here.

I used Revo Uninstaller (great free product) to remove it from all aspects of my PC (new and somehow firefox had Bing)… but still it was on Firefox and nothing would get rid of it (the usual) not in Firefox add ons so on… I went to computer, Program Files (x86) and under Mozilla Firefox, saw the ad on listed there and deleted it. (I am not a computer pro so search a bit there)… then shut down firefox and restarted and it was gone. Yeah!
