Google Buzz

Internet Explorer 8 gives the choice of multiple Search Providers when giving results from it’s search box. By default IE 8 gives Live Search after installation. In the example discussed below we are adding Google as a Search Provider.

Steps to be followed to add a search provider are:
1. Click the drop down menu of the Search Box Select ‘Manage Search Providers’.

2. The ‘Manage Add-ons’ window opens. Here you can add any search engine of your choice or edit existing ones.
3. Click on ‘Find more search providers…’ at the bottom left corner of the ‘Manage Add-ons’ window, shown in the screen shot below.

4. This takes you to a gallery of Search Providers on IE Add-ons webpage.

5. Browse the list of available Providers and select your choice.
6. Then just click on ‘Add to Internet Explorer’ to install it. In the above image, we have added Google.
7. If you like to make this search provider default, tick the ‘Make this my default search provider’ checkbox in the ‘Add Search Provider’ window(shown in the below image).
8. Click the ‘Add’ button to complete the installation.

9. This provider then shows up in the ‘Manage Add-ons’ window as well as the drop down menu of Internet Explorer 8 search box. (see image below)

In case you have not found the search provider of your choice in the IE 8 gallery, then you can create your own search provider. For example search providers for search engines like Cuil, SearchMe cannot be found in Internet Explorer Add-ons gallery.
