How to block Pop-up windows in Firefox?

Many websites bring up pop up windows either for advertising or information sharing. Sometimes you may wish to get rid of such pop-ups. You can stop any pop-ups from showing up during your browsing in Firefox by the following steps:

1. Go to Tools–>Options –> Content Tab

2. Tick the Block Pop-up windows optionSee the screenshot below:

From now on whenever there is a pop-up Firefox will notify it of you by displaying the message “Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window“.

In order to manage how you want Firefox to handle this pop-up click on Options button. You can either allow the pop up for this one time by selecting “Show [pop-up web page url]” or make Firefox remember your answer by choosing “Allow pop-ups for [website name]“.

A question that is faced by many users is “I have allowed pop-ups for a site but now I want to block the same site“.

In order to remove a site that was earlier allowed to show pop-ups,

1. Go to Tools–>Options –> Content Tab

2. Click on Exceptions button. This will bring up “Allowed Sites – Pop-ups” window.

3. Choose the websites that you want to remove and click on Remove Site. Or you can wipe out the entire exception list by clicking on Remove All Sites.
