How To Enable ReadyBoost And Speed Up Windows 7 Performance
Want to improve your Windows 7 PC performance? Most of the delay caused during accessing your programs or documents is due to a hard disk read. Windows 7, like it’s predecessor Windows Vista, offers a feature called ReadyBoost to increase your computer’s available cache, thereby improving performance. ReadyBoost works by caching most frequently opened programs and files on any external flash memory device such as USB drive, SD card, Compact Flash etc.
Here are the steps to configure your pen drive as a ReadyBoost device:
1. Plug-in your USB drive.
2. Right-click on the drive icon and select Properties.
3. In the ‘ReadyBoost’ tab, select ‘Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost’.
4. Click OK. Windows 7 now configures the drive to use it as an extended cache.
If you do not want to dedicate the entire drive, but only part of it, you can choose the option ‘Use this device’ and set the memory space with the slider. Here is how a dedicated ReadyBoost drive looks after it is configured:
Make use of your spare USB drive and improve Windows 7 performance.
