Windows 7 Explorer – How To Expand To Current Folder Automatically

In Windows XP when you browse folders in the Windows Explorer’s right panel, the folder hierarchy in the left Navigation Pane expands automatically to the current folder. This behavior does not happen by default in Windows 7.

So if you have recently moved from XP to Windows 7, you may have been wondering how to get back the XP style navigation in Windows 7. In order to expand folders automatically, you need to change the Folder settings in Windows 7. Here is how you can do it.

1. Open Windows Explorer.

2. Click on Folder and search options from the Organize tab on the toolbar.

3. In the General tab, you can find a section titled Navigation Pane.

4. Select Automatically expand to current folder.

5. Click OK to save the changes. From now on whenever you navigate to sub-directories in the explorer pane, the folder hierarchy in the navigation pane will automatically expand to reflect the current folder.
