How to Map an Address with a Single Click in Internet Explorer 8?

Internet Explorer 8 may not be the best browser in town but it does have a few interesting features not found in other browsers. One already discussed example is the Customization of Search Providers. Here we will take a look at it’s other highly useful feature: Accelerators.

An Accelerator is a short cut to routine activities done on selected text, like searching for word(s), looking up an address, translating the text, e-mailing, blogging, sharing and social networking. There is really no end to what kind of tasks you can accelerate in IE 8.

How to map an address with a single click?

In order to accelerate your mapping of an address found on a web page,

1. Select the address and click on the Accelerator icon.

2. Choose ‘Map with Live Search’ which is a default accelerator for Mapping addresses

With a single Click you have the address mapped. Live Search is not the only Mapping accelerator. Yahoo Local Search can also be added to the list of Accelerators. However for some unknown reason Google Maps is not yet available.

How to Manage Accelerators?
Mapping with a single click is just one of the huge number of tasks that you can accelerate. In order to add more accelerators

1. Go to Tools –> Manage Add-ons and Click on the ‘Accelerators’ Tab (or)

2. Right Click –> All Accelerators –> Manage Accelerators.

Here you can change Defaults, Add new Accelerators by going to ‘Find More Accelerators..’. Managing Accelerators is similar to managing Search Providers. These both along with ‘Toolbars and Extensions’ and ‘In-Private Filtering’ are considered as Add-Ons in IE8.

Thanks for this great tip! I was about to shift to a different browser as I found IE8 so sluggish to use. Looks like it has some good features.
