How To Jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS With Limera1n

Much to all our shock, an unexpected turn of events has changed the iPhone 4 jailbreak scenario. The much anticipated GreenPois0n jailbreak is delayed, because of availability of Limera1n download. This surprise jailbreak tool works with iOS 4, iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2 and later firmware on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iTouch 4G, 3G, iPad 3.2.2, and even Apple TV 2G.

GreenPois0n Release Delayed

Geohot, the same iPhone hacker who earlier gave blackra1n has found a new bootrom exploit, which he released as Limera1n. Much to the chagrin of other iPhone hackers including Chronic Dev Team, iPhone Dev Team, p0sixninja, Limera1n release has forced them to delay GreenPois0n release. Since Limera1n uses a different boot level exploit than SHAtter, they have decided to hold SHAtter to jailbreak future devices and instead bring in Limera1n exploit into GreenPois0n. Hence the delay and the yet to be confirmed ETA for GreenPois0n.

A Note For iPhone Unlockers

Do not update to iOS 4.1 firmware directly if you want to preserve your unlock.

Follow this guide to update to iOS 4.1 (iPhone 4 only) without losing your Ultrasn0w unlock:

Or you could wait for PwnageTool to bring in the Limera1n exploit, so that you can jailbreak iPhone 3GS without baseband update.

Limera1n Limitations

Currently Limera1n is available only for Windows. Mac OSX and Linux versions may be released soon.

iOS 4 Beta versions not supported.

iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3G not yet supported.Use Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.

How To Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 Using Limera1n

For those of you who have been waiting to jailbreak your iPhone, here are the steps:

1. Download Limera1n (link at bottom).

2. Connect your iPhone to your Computer via USB cable.

3. Double click on Limera1n exe file to run it. Click on ‘Make it ra1n’.

4. Wait for iPhone to enter into recovery mode.

Next follow the instructions given by Limera1n.

5. Hold HOME + POWER buttons.

6. Next release POWER button.

7. Wait for your device to enter into DFU mode. You should be seeing the message ‘in DFU mode…wait’.

8. At this point you will see the limera1n logo on your iPhone screen. Let limera1n finish the jailbreak process by injecting the boot level exploit into your device.

9. You can now go ahead and install Cydia by tapping on the limera1n icon on your iPhone Homescreen.

10. Restart your iPhone.

That’s it. You are done. Your iPhone is now jailbroken for life! Only a hardware release can patch this bootrom level exploit, not any firmware release.

Unlock iPhone 4 iOS 4.1

If you have preserved baseband while updating to iOS 4.1, then you have the chance to unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w.

For those of you who have accidentally upgraded to baseband 05.14.02, which is not yet supported by Ultrasn0w 1.1-1, sorry but you have no other option but to wait for the next release.
