Gmail Offline: How To Setup For Viewing Messages And Composing Mail Offline

One of the most useful features in Gmail is to compose messages and view emails offline. So you need not worry about viewing your emails including attachments when your internet connection is disrupted or while you are on road with no internet connection.

What’s more, Gmail lets you even add add attachments to email messages when you are offline.  Gmail automatically sends those composed emails when internet connection resumes.

 

How to Setup Gmail for Offline Viewing, Composing Of Emails?

1. Login to your email account and click on "Settings" in the top right corner of the Gmail interface.

2. Click on "Offline" tab.

3. In the Offline Mail section, Turn On "Enable Offline Mail for this computer". This feature will Synchronize your mail to this computer so you can access it without an internet connection. Click ‘Save Changes’ button.

4. Now Gmail asks you to install Google Gears. Go ahead and click ‘Install’.

5. Follow the installation procedure. After finishing installation, Gmail asks you to restart browsers.

6. After restarting the browser, login to your Gmail account.

7. Gmail takes sometime in setting up the things for viewing offline. During this process it downloads all the messages into your computer with attachments. You will see a new status icon on top right corner next to your username.

To have more control over the offline settings,  Click "Settings" and "Offline" tab. Here you can configure "Download options", "Specify maximum attachment size" and few other useful options.
