When you browse the web, browsers store lot of information in the form of webpage history, temporary internet files, cookies. All this information can later be retrieved and could prove to be harmful to your privacy. This scenario is very possible when you browse the web in an internet cafe or kiosk and forget to delete the information. A new feature of Internet Explorer 8 called InPrivate Browsing lets you surf the web without leaving any information behind.

InPrivate Browsing

When you start InPrivate Browsing, Internet Explorer 8 opens a new window. You can open as many tabs as you want in that window, and they will all be protected by InPrivate Browsing. Your browsing history along with any address bar and search history, entered form data and passwords is not stored in the InPrivate window. IE 8 stores some information like cookies and temporary internet files during your browsing session in order for web pages to work correctly; however all this data is discarded when you close the window. It also has an Anti-phishing cache wherein some temporary information is stored in encrypted form.

How to start Inprivate Browsing?

You can start InPrivate Browsing in either of two ways:

1. Go to Tools –> InPrivate Browsing. Direct short cut: CTRL+SHIFT+P

2. Click on ‘Open an InPrivate Browsing window‘ on a New Tab page.

InPrivate session is highlighted at the left of the address bar.
