How To Import Firefox Bookmarks, Passwords Into Chrome

Google Chrome is fast becoming a browser of choice, albeit only as secondary to Firefox. Many users who complain of Firefox crashes as well as slow Firefox load time find Google Chrome more stable and fast. For those of you who want to switch from Firefox to Chrome, here is how you can take all your favorites/bookmarks, saved passwords, search engines, and even browser history to the new browser.

You can import settings from other browsers installed on your PC into Google Chrome, either during installation,  after installation through the options menu (jump to this section) or manually(jump to this section).

Import Firefox Settings During Chrome Installation

You can download Chrome installer here. This web installer downloads and installs Google Chrome on your PC. After the installation is complete, and Google Chrome is ready to be launched, you will be asked for a confirmation.

1. Click on ‘Customize these settings’ in the ‘Welcome to Google Chrome’ dialog.

2. Select the check box ‘Import settings from:’ and then select ‘Mozilla Firefox’ from the drop down menu.

3. By default Google Chrome installs itself as the default browser. Make sure you uncheck this option before you hit the ‘Start Google Chrome’ button.


4. If Firefox is open, you will be asked to close it and hit Continue.

That’s it. When Google Chrome opens up, you have all your Firefox favorites, usernames and passwords.

Import Firefox Settings To From Google Chrome Options Menu

1. Go to Tools (the wrench icon) –> Options.

2. Go to the ‘Personal Stuff’ tab and click on ‘Import data from another browser…’ in the Browsing data section.

3. Select Firefox from the list of browsers, and then click Import. Unselect any of the check boxes for Favorites/Bookmarks, Search Engines, Saved passwords, or Browsing history if you do not want to import it.

Import Firefox Bookmarks To Chrome Manually

If for some reason you are unable to view Firefox in the browser list, then don’t worry. There is a way to get your Firefox bookmarks atleast to Chrome

1. Open Firefox and export Firefox bookmarks as HTML.

2. In Google Chrome, go to Tools –> Bookmark manager (Ctrl + Shift + B).

3. Click on Organize –> Import Bookmarks.

4. Choose the HTML file exported by Firefox in step 1.
