iPod Touch 4G Jailbroken Using SHAtter Exploit [Video]

We keep getting questions in comments as well as Emails about an iOS 4.1 jailbreak for the new iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G. Now here is some good news to all of you who are stuck with a new device on iOS 4.1. The iPhone Dev Team has demoed iPod Touch 4G jailbreak on iOS 4.1 using SHAtter exploit which was first discovered by p0sixninja and later developed by pod2g.

The iPhone Dev Team have managed to test SHAtter using a beta version of PwnageTool. And it worked! You can see that they have been able to jailbreak iPod Touch 4G iOS 4.1 using this SHAtter based PwnageTool, in the below video, by restoring the device to a custom IPSW. The screenshot to the right shows iPod Touch 4G with Cydia, and SSH on it’s home screen.

For the unaware, SHAtter is an all device jailbreak which is currently in the works. There is no ETA yet given, but as the video shows the iPhone Dev Team is putting in all their efforts to make the exploit work on all devices. So iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G users who are looking to jailbreak and unlock, keep up your hope as SHAtter is going to be out any time soon!

Unlike JailbreakMe, SHAtter is not a userland (browser based) exploit; it is a low level bootrom exploit. Which means that it requires a new bootrom (hardware) release from Apple to fix the exploit. Till then you can jailbreak any iOS firmware on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch 4G/3G/2G or iPad using this exploit.

SHAtter exploit now reserved for later devices (iPhone 5?) after Limera1n’s unexpected release delayed GreenPois0n.

Limera1n, another boot level exploit found by GeoHot and made untethered by Comex can jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, 3G, and iPad 3.2.2.
