Jailbreak Apple TV 2G On iOS 4.2.1 Using Seas0nPass

A new software called Seas0nPass has been released by FireCore, developers of media center software for Apple TV 2G. Seas0nPass, similar to PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze, lets you create custom IPSW firmware to jailbreak Apple TV 2G. ATV was earlier jailbroken on iOS 4.1 using PwnageTool 4.1.

Currently Seas0nPass is a tethered jailbreak, meaning which you are required to connect your ATV 2G to a Computer every time you reboot. Also the jailbreak tool works only for Apple TV 2G, and not with any other iOS device, including iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.

Mac OS X version of Seas0nPass is available as a free download, while the Windows version is expected soon.

How To Boot Apple TV 2G Into Tethered Boot

Seas0nPass is a tethered jailbreak. This means that every time you restart your Apple TV, you will have to connect it to your Computer and do a ‘tethered boot’ using Seas0nPass.

Note: The AppleTV MUST be disconnected from the computer (for at least a brief moment) after restoring in iTunes for the tethered boot process below to work properly.

1. Launch Seas0nPass. This time click on the ‘Boot Tethered’ button.

2. Put Apple TV in DFU mode. Connect your device to your Computer using micro USB cable, and hold both the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons together for about 7 seconds.

3. Let Seas0nPass complete the tethered boot automatically. Once it is done, you can remove the USB cable, and connect your HDMI cable.seas0npass_download
