Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 With PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X

Ever since Apple released iPhone firmware update 3.1.3, all the jailbreaking tools have been receiving updates: redsn0w 0.9.4 and Sn0wbreeze 1.5 are the recently released updates for iPhone 3.1.3 firmware. The iPhone Dev team have now updated PwnageTool, a popular jailbreaking tool for Mac OS X, to work with iPhone 3.1.3 firmware.

PwnageTool 3.1.5, the latest version, can jailbreak iPhone 2G/3G, 3GS (older bootroms only), and iPod Touch 1G, 2G (non-MC models). iPod Touch 3G is not yet supported. The iPhone Dev Team warned iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers to be wary, because any mistakes while updating to the 3.1.3 firmware, will result in loss of unlock. Especially iPhone 3GS users, who do not have ‘SHSH hashes’ backed up via Cydia, may find themselves stuck at 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or downgrade to 3.1.2, in case they make a mistake in the process.

PwnageTool, similar to Sn0wbreeze, creates custom IPSW files, which can be used to update iPhone firmware to 3.1.3, without updating it’s baseband, thus letting you unlock your iPhone with either blacksn0w or ultrasn0w. iPhone 3GS users, who have earlier used blacksn0w to unlock their device, should stay away.
