Here are the steps to jailbreak iOS 4 or iOS 4.0.1 on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom, old bootrom), iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G, 3G MC Model, and iPad 3.2.1.

1. Sync your iPhone or iPad with iTunes so that you have a backup of all your contacts, photos, videos, apps, calendar, etc.

2. Update your iPhone firmware to iOS 4 or iOS 4.0.1 (latest), and iPad to firmware 3.2.1 (download links at bottom).

3. Connect to Internet and open Safari browser on your iPhone.

4. Navigate to http://www.jailbreakme.com.

4. Tap the ‘Slide to jailbreak’ button. This will start the jailbreak process of your iDevice.

5. JailbreakMe will then download the required files to your iDevice. You will see a message saying ‘Downloading… This might take a while.’.

6. After the download is completed, your iPhone or iPad will be automatically jailbroken. Don’t do anything as long as you see the message ‘Jailbreaking… Sit tight.’.

7. At the end of the jailbreaking, you will see a message saying that ‘Cydia has been added to your home screen’.

That’s it. You now have a completely jailbroken iOS 4/4.0.1 on iPhone or iPad 3.1.2 with Cydia installed on it. Go ahead and get all those forbidden jailbreak apps you always wanted to have on your iPhone.
