List of Hotkeys Or Keyboard Shortcuts In Windows 7

Windows 7 has added some new Hotkeys/Keyboard Shortcut Keys to increase productivity of users. These Hot Keys include shortcuts for managing windows, for working with multiple monitors, for cycling through taskbar items easily etc.

Though Windows 7 users have the privilege of giving voice commands to their system using it’s built-in voice recognition engine, many people still prefer the old and fastest way of using keyboard shortcuts. Here is a list of useful keyboard shortcuts in Windows 7:

1. Win+Up – Maximize the current window

2. Win+Down – Restore / Minimize the current window

3. Win+Left – Snap/dock window to left part of the screen

4. Win+Right – Snap or dock the window to right of the screen

5. Win+Shift+Left – Jump to left monitor

6. Win+Shift+Right – Jump to right monitor

7. Win+Home – Minimize / Restore all other windows except the one which has focus.

8. Win+T – Focus the first taskbar item
Repeated pressing of Win+T will cycle through all Taskbar items. You can also use the arrow keys for cycling once the focus shifts to the taskbar with the Win+T hotkey.
Win+Shift+T cycles backwards.

9. Win+Space – Peek at the desktop (works only if Aero Peek is enabled).

10. Win+G – Bring gadgets to the top.

11. Win+P – In case your PC is connected to a projector, this hot key brings up the display projection settings window. Use the arrow keys to switch between multiple display settings, such as ‘clone’, ‘extend’, ‘external only’ etc.

12. Win+X – Brings up the Windows Mobility Center window. You can quickly get an overview of your battery status, wireless connections, connected external displays, sync settings etc.

13. Win+# (where # stands for a number) – Launches a new instance of the application in the Nth slot on the taskbar.
For example, Win+3 launches new instance of the third item on taskbar.

14. Alt+P – Show/hide Preview Pane in Windows Explorer.

15. Shift + Click on Taskbar Icon/ Middle click on Taskbar Icon – Opens a new instance of that item.

16. Ctrl + Shift + Click on Taskbar Icon – Opens a new instance with Admin privileges
