How To Integrate Bing Search In Windows 7 Explorer
Bing search can now be integrated into the Windows 7 Explorer. You can search the internet from your desktop itself, the same way you search for files and folders, without opening a browser. Windows 7 has a feature called federated search which uses OpenSearch standards to access remote data from within Microsoft Windows Explorer.
In order to provide a search inside Explorer, an OpenSearch description document is created for that search engine.
In order to start using Bing from your Windows 7 Explorer,
1. Download and save the Bing OpenSearch description document which is an .osdx file (download link given below).
2. Double click on this file to open the ‘Add Search Connector’ dialog box.
3. Click on ‘Add’. This will add Bing search to Windows Explorer.
You will need to be connected to the Internet to start searching the web right away. In case there is a network connection problem a message ‘This location cannot be searched because it no longer exists or is temporarily unavailable’ is displayed.
Choose ‘Bing’ in the left side panel of Windows Explorer and type the search terms in the search box. Any selected results will open up in your default browser. Right-clicking any result will give you options such as Open, Send to etc.
