Recharge your Handheld Devices while Walking or Running!
nPower from Tremont Electric is a vibration harvesting technology which can generate energy from walking, riding on a bicycle etc. Their first commercial product is the nPower PEG (Personal Energy Generator), a small lightweight electrical generator that produces power for handheld electronic devices (i.e. cell phones, iPods, GPS, etc.) from a person’s movements.
The up and down movement from your walking or running creates kinetic energy. The Power™ PEG transfers this energy in the form of electrical power to your handheld mobile electronic devices through a standard USB 2.0 connector. It charges handheld mobile electronic devices at the same rate as a wall charger which means an 80% charge is reached with just an hour of walking throughout the day.
The nPower PEG can charge over 90% of handheld electronics including cell phones, mp3 players, digital cameras, gaming devices, and GPS including the iPhone/iPod, Blackberry, LG Chocolate, Palm Treo, Nintendo DS Lite, Megellan GPS and some specific mobile phones from Nokia, Samsung, Sanyo and Sony.
There is no need to wear the device; it can be carried in any way by the user. It is also capable of generating energy by simply being placed in a moving bus or automobile. The PEG does not have a battery and as such cannot store any kinetic energy for later use. It is actually an on-the-fly energy converter and can charge devices only during the movement of the user.
