Tether Android Devices With Free EasyTether App

Many Android users would like to tether their device so that they can connect their PC to the Internet on their mobile phone. For the unaware, Tethering means to use your mobile device as a modem, to connect any other devices such as a Computer to the Internet. Tethering is usually done via USB or Bluetooth.

Earlier, if you wanted to tether Android free of cost, you had to root the device to get full system access so that you can install an app such as Android Wi-Fi Tether. However now there is a free app called EasyTether available for Android 1.5+ devices, including Motorola Droid, Nexus One, T-Mobile G1,  HTC Dream, HTC Sync and HTC Hero.

EasyTether does not require root access, so any non-geeks can easily tether their phones via an USB connection. Available in the Android market, this app currently runs on Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP 32 bit versions only. Support for 64 bit versions of Windows and Mac OSX is soon to come. Also support for Bluetooth DUN will be added later.

Note: You will have to enable USB debugging on your Android phone by going to Settings –> Applications –> Development.
