TwitterBar lets you tweet from Firefox Address Bar
Twitter users are always looking for different ways to post tweets to their favorite micro-blogging service. Most twitter users stay connected with Twitter desktop clients . However if you just want to quickly send a post to Twitter, without leaving the browser, then TwitterBar, a Firefox extension may prove to be useful.
With TwitterBar, you send tweets from Firefox’s address bar.
A small twitter icon is displayed after it’s installation. The first time you try to send a tweet, TwitterBar asks for authorization of your Twitter account. Type your tweet into the address bar and hover over the twitter icon to see the number of characters left over. Clicking on the ‘+’ icon sends the tweet right away to Twitter, giving you a short glimpse of “Post successful” message in the address bar. Type ‘—post’ at the end of your tweet and TwitterBar will post the tweet immediately requiring no further clicks.

You can also easily post web urls to Twitter; clicking on the twitter button in the address bar will send a link to the current page in your browser to Twitter. You can also tweet the title of the webpage by simply adding ‘$$’ to the tweet. See the below image in which clicking the twitter icon from MS Word 2010 Copy Paste Options page resulted in a tweet with a shortened url and also the ‘$$’ being replaced with the page title.
By default ‘Currently Browsing’ is added whenever you tweet links. You can change this to any text you like from TwitterBar’s options menu. You can open this menu either by typing “—options” from the address bar or by going to Tools—>Add-ons and clicking on options after selecting TwitterBar. You can choose a different URL shortener and even reset the authorization settings stored if you want to tweet from a different account.

When TwitterBar is installed, it proposes to install the OneRiot social web search plugin. If you choose OK, then OneRiot search engine is added to the list of engines in the Search Bar. Also you can search the social web sites like Twitter, Digg etc from TwitterBar by typing –search after your search terms. Your Search Bar will now by default search the Social Web using OneRiot. If you want to change this just click on the pull down menu and choose any search engine of your choice. The default search engine of the address bar is not changed by TwitterBar.

TwitterBar is a handy Firefox extension for all Twitter users. However a drawback exists in the form of not being able to tweet from multiple twitter accounts at the same time. You will have to reset the authorization data every time you want to tweet from an other account. Also the feedback after a tweet is sent is given for a very short time, barely giving a glance to the sender.
Works with: Firefox: 2.0 – 3.5.*
