Unlock iPhone 3GS, 3G On iOS 4.2.1/4.1 Using Ultrasn0w 1.2

If you are reading this post, then you sure must have used PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition or Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 5 to first upgrade iPhone 3GS/3G baseband from 05.14.02 to 06.15.00. If you haven’t yet done so, then here is what you need to know – the iPhone Dev Team are currently unable to unlock baseband 05.14.02 on iPhone 3GS/3G but fortunately found a working exploit for bb 06.15.00 (a higher version bb found on iPad 3.2.2).

Which means that if you want to unlock any of the basebands from 05.14.02 and higher, then you have to first upgrade to baseband 06.15.00 and then unlock with Ultrasn0w 1.2. If you haven’t done so, then go ahead and update your baseband to 06.15.00. Only then Ultrasn0w 1.2 will be able to unlock your iPhone.

Update iPhone 3GS, 3G baseband to 06.15.00 using Redsn0w 0.9.6b5

After upgrading your baseband as mentioned above, continue with the following steps to unlock iPhone 3GS or 3G on basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.21.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00. As you may have noticed baseband 05.14.02 is not included in this list because it is not unlockable by Ultrasn0w 1.2. This is the reason why you need to upgrade to 06.15.00! Well you may be thinking why only upgrade? Because Apple does not allow you to downgrade your baseband.

1. Launch Cydia and go to the ‘Manage’ tab.

2. Tap ‘Sources’.

3. Tap ‘Edit’ at top right and then ‘Add’ at top left.

4. Enter ‘http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com‘ and tap ‘Add Source’.

5. After Cydia downloads the packages and completes updation of it’s sources, search for ‘Ultrasn0w’.

Fix Battery Drain On iPhone 3GS/3G After Unlocking With Ultrasn0w 1.2

Due to continual checking of push certificates by iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2.1 your battery will drain pretty fast after you update to baseband 6.15.00 and unlock it with Ultrasn0w 1.2. The culprits are not PwnageTool or Redsn0w but a feature put in by Apple that uses either WiFi or your cellular data network to continuously check for certs.

Here is a temporary fix for battery drain after unlocking with Ultrasn0w 1.2.
