Unlock iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 After Limera1n Jailbreak

Now that Limera1n jailbreak works for all iOS devices, including iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, 3G, and iPad 3.2.2, you can go ahead and jailbreak your iPhone 4 using this untethered boot level jailbreak. Since Limera1n requires your iPhone 4 to be on iOS 4.1, which will obviously result in a baseband upgrade, you need to follow the instructions given below (only for iPhone 4) to preserve your unlock while jailbreaking.

iOS 4.1 Baseband Update Warning

For those of you who have not yet updated to iOS 4.1, let us tell you upfront that this firmware update will also update your baseband to 2.10.04 is not yet supported by Ultrasn0w 1.1-1. Which means that if you were to update to iOS 4.1 directly via iTunes, then you would lose your carrier unlock, possibly forever.

Jailbreak iPhone 4

Geohot, the iPhone hacker who earlier gave us blackra1n has come up with a boot level exploit which is untethered (thanks to another hacker Comex). This one is different from the SHAtter exploit that was initially set to release as GreenPois0n jailbreak for 4G devices.

With Limera1n’s release, GreenPois0n got delayed, and SHAtter exploit is reserved for future jailbreaks.

Unlock iPhone 4 After Jailbreaking With Limera1n

After Limera1n jailbreak, you can unlock your iPhone with Ultrasn0w provided that you have not upgraded your baseband.

Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 can unlock iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G on basebands 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, and 05.13.04.

1. Launch Cydia and touch on the ‘Manage’ tab.

2. Touch ‘Sources’.

3. Tap ‘Edit’ and then ‘Add Source’ at the top left of your iPhone screen.

4. Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com in the Enter Cydia/APT URL dialog and tap ‘Add Source’.

5. Let Cydia follow a series of automated steps to update it’s sources.

6. When done, search for ‘Ultrasn0w 1.1-1′ in Cydia and install the package.

That’s it. After installation, reboot your phone and you should be able to use it with any unofficial carrier SIM.
